They are receiving far too many resumes for their open positions which makes it much harder to "find and discover" Mr./Ms. Right candidate.

Whereas a single posting one year ago may have solicited 100 resumes, today a similar posting will bring in 500 or more resumes. Because of this huge volume, companies are wise and prudent to rely on other mechanisms. Employee referrals and social networking sites are actively being utilized. However, even in today's marketplace, competition for "exceptional" candidates with specific up-to-date skill sets is intense.

NDT is well qualified to now add value for these HARD to FIND exceptional candidates. We have personal relationships with the people we represent. Our mission is not only to find the "right" candidate with the exact technical skill set...but to add value by finding the "right" person who understands our clients' business and company culture.

Posted by: Beverly A. If you wait too long, they are likely to have another offer and/or be asked to rejoin a prior employer.

Posted by: Larry Kahn, Vice President of Recruiting

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Marcia R. It varies where the cuts will be made.

There will be new investments. Investing during recessionary times may help a company increase its competitive edge. Ignoring investments will cost even more in the game of “catch up.”

Retaining top talent takes on a new life in a recession. There may not be an endless supply of job openings, but true to history, exceptional workers can always be enticed by something better.

Companies should always be alert to keeping the “BEST” employees on board and attracting the "BEST" new talent. Recruiting companies in the technology sector seem to be affected in a six to seven year cycle.

This recession does have a different style. Unlike the harsh recession post 9/11, there are jobs openings in High-Tech. Many client companies are still hiring Engineers, QA, Pre-Sales, and Product Management professionals. Companies that have slowed hiring or have put a hold on hiring, have asked us to remain in touch with them as they are likely to hire again at some point in 2009.

In previous recessions, client companies did not share this level of optimism and communication with agency partners. In many cases, all hiring came to an abrupt halt and communication with agency partners was severed. However, in 2009, clients who have put using recruiting firms on a “holding pattern” are checking in and letting us know that we should keep actively in touch.

Good manners are always in vogue whether the economy is in a recession or boom time. There are many good quality companies, human resource professionals, and hiring managers who understand the value a good recruiting agency partner brings, and they know that when the economy does turn around and strong candidates are scarce, strong relationships with their recruiting partners will be critical to meet new demands on their business.

Posted by: Beverly A. Some have not been in the role of “interviewee” for many years and need to have accurate expectations of the offer negotiation process in 2009. Yes, well-qualified technology professionals are still in demand and are receiving job offers, and sometimes they receive multiple job offers in this market. New Dimensions in Technology (NDT) is finding that client companies are offering appropriate compensation packages based on the job requirements and the candidate’s level of experience. Both companies and candidates want to start their new relationship on a good note whereby the candidate and employer are excited for the new employee to come on board. Remember, this is the beginning of a new relationship. Candidates must continue to conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner throughout the offer negotiation process or risk the offer being rescinded.

NDT recommends the following to Candidates:

An official job offer may be extended verbally and/or in writing. Review the job offer including base salary, bonus incentive and all other benefits before giving a response to the offer. Be clear on when the offer expires.

Once the offer has been reviewed, write down a list of any questions you may have about benefits and note any modifications you may want to negotiate, including base salary, bonus incentive, and title.

Candidates have one opportunity to request modifications to the offer in order to keep negotiations professional and timely. Clients are often amenable to making specific modifications to an offer with the condition that the candidate will accept the offer once requested changes are granted. Once a client company does their part to meet the candidate’s requests, a candidate should be prepared to accept the offer and start on the date determined in the offer.

Posted by: Risa Kahn, Career Agent, New Dimensions in Technology (NDT)

December Brings Cold Jobs Figures for Mass.

BOSTON - January 23, 2009

December Brings Cold Jobs Figures For Mass.
By Curt Nickisch

Complete Article

"The state's unemployment rate has jumped to its highest in 15 years: to 6.9 percent -- up one full percentage point in a single month, thanks to a slew of job losses in December. This is not the case. In the Massachusetts job market, candidates who have strong skills in Software Development, Web Development, and Software QA, are getting multiple job offers. These candidates remain in high demand and companies—start-up, mid-size, and FORUNE 500, are vying for them. This same scenario holds true for candidates with exceptional Software Product Management and Software Product Marketing experience. We advise our client companies to complete their due diligence on a candidate, but if they identify a solid candidate for a particular position, they should not delay the interview process as the candidate is likely to receive other offers.

Posted by: Larry Kahn, Vice President of Recruiting

A job well done by Risa Kahn, Career Agent!

Compliment from a Candidate placed at a Massachusetts-based software company by Risa Kahn, New Dimensions in Technology (NDT) Career Agent.

"Risa,

I was on my walk this morning and I made a mental note to send you this note of gratitude.
